Smoke inhalation is the apparent cause of death for two men who were killed in a fire late Wednesday in a nursing home where they lived in north suburban Niles. Two other residents were injured.
Killed were Igor Shteyn, 67, and Naum Berdichevfky, 76, both of 9777 N. Greenwod Ave. Shteyn was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. and Berdichevfky at 12:24 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, which said both appeared to have suffered smoke inhalation. They were pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
